I am writing in support of Tim Rogers for Mayor of the Village of New Paltz. Tim possesses many skills that will greatly benefit the Village of New Paltz as well as the greater New Paltz community. Tim has been a tireless public servant to the community, having served on the Town’s Planning Board as well as having been elected to the Board of Education. As a member of the Board of Education Tim has been instrumental in working cooperatively with all of the other Board members in order to achieve consensus regarding the recently approved capital project. The unanimous Board of Education support for the initiative is indicative of Tim’s ability to meaningfully communicate and cooperate regarding potentially divisive and controversial issues. His thoughtful analysis and ability to qualitatively assess fiscal and legal issues makes him invaluable to the community he serves.

Recently a Court decision was handed down upholding the Planning Board’s decision to deny the Park Point construction project. Central to the large scale construction project proposal was a “payment in lieu of taxes” (PILOT) which would result in the corporation/owner paying a far lesser amount of taxes than if taxed upon the assessed value of the rental apartment complex. Tim was a volunteer on the Planning Board at the time the project was being considered. He spent countless hours analyzing the issues raised by the project proposal. His work demonstrated that the Planning Board had taken a “hard look” in its review of the project which gave the Court the foundation upon which to base its decision in favor of the Planning Board. As a citizen Tim has also sought to have the Village building code fairly and equally enforced in order to insure the safety of the Village residents. Tim’s ability to grasp complex policy issues along with his willingness to collaborate and cooperate with other board members makes him the best candidate to be the next Mayor of New Paltz.
